Our lives are the story we tell ourselves.
It is amazing how much we are conditioned to think against ourselves. If we are thinking something good about ourselves, chances are we are not doing it sincerely. Why is that so? Because we fear that we may jinx something which is happening in the background and we being happy about it without actually having it will disrupt the process.
But when it comes to thinking against ourselves, it seems that we are pretty darn good at it. Our mind can take a tour of all the probable negative scenarios and will keep praying for good things to happen rather than playing the good things, because, you know, can be jinxed.
Why did this happen? Didn’t our parents say the right words when we were kids? Or were they extra protective? Was it the typical middle-class mentality to always adopt a cautionary stance in everything in life- that included the thoughts?
If you have lived a normal life, I can bet that you have felt it. You have made life difficult for yourself by assuming the worst, or the more negative of the possible scenarios at some or other stage of your life.
Of all the not-so-cheerful things you have read above, there is good news- you really have the superpowers to get everything in favour of you.
It is as simple as- start thinking in your favour.
This might sound ludicrous to you. Why do I need to tell you this? You have been doing this since your childhood. You always think in your favour. What else, on the earth, you will think about if not thinking in your own favour?
Fair enough. You got me. Maybe I assumed too much about you. Don’t listen to me. But do one thing for next 10 minutes.
Sit down in a quiet place. Close your eyes. And choose any thought that is on top of your list these days. Some concern, some plans where things can go either way. Think of that and observe what is the first thought that comes to your mind.
Are you thinking about things that are going to happen in your favour? Or your thinking is dominated with the thoughts of what-to-do if it is going against you?
If you are having former thoughts, then I admire you. You can just close the blog here and log off. But if you are in latter (majority of us are, chances are you are also in the second category), then it is time to change.
Watch your thoughts. Change the story you tell yourself via your thoughts and beliefs. It will take time and practice. Your very well oiled and conditioned mind will resist. And why shouldn’t it? After all, you have trained it all through our lives till now to think about negative things first. To think about scenarios and backups plans because things will most probably not go in our favour.
Again, watch your thoughts. Your thoughts create your beliefs. Your beliefs impact your actions. Your actions determine everything you are.
